2007

 

 

 

October 29--Jerry Gerber will present a talk to the electronic music class at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music on Thursday, November 15th at 2:00 p.m.

 

 

October 9--Work on new compositions and a new CD is underway, the CD will feature seven short pieces and a cello concerto. Windy Hop, a short piece for sampled woodwinds is composed and recorded.  

 

 

August 31--Time Shadows has been released and is available at CD Baby.

 

 

July 5--The composition and production of my latest CD is now complete.  On it will be my 6th symphony and a two movement work called Variations. The entire project took about 30 months to complete.

 

 

May 28--The first movement (Evolution) of my new symphony was broadcast with commentary on Czech Radio 3, radio station "Vltava" on Monday, May 20.

February 2-- Arts and Opinion writes about Jerry's work:  Between Sets by Diane Gordon

 

 

January 20--Ottava Records has installed in the studio the ADAM S3A monitors.  These powered monitors are manufactured in Germany and are extremely accurate; transparent and detailed in the mid-range, smooth in the highs and focused in the bass.  See photos of the San Francisco electronic music studio.

 

 

 


2006

 

 

 

November 26--The new multi-movement work is progressing well.  The first two movements are complete, composing is progressing on the 3rd movement.  This month Jerry is interviewed in Art Revolutionaries.

July 10--Work has begun on the 2nd movement of the new work for digital instruments.  The first movement is complete and recorded. This month Jerry is interviewed in Virtual Instruments magazine.

 

 

March 2--Jerry is the featured artist this month at Art Revolutionaries. This site showcases musicians, painters, photographers and writers.

 

 

February 24--Work has begun on Symphony #6 for the virtual orchestra.  The Vienna Symphonic Library is a joy to compose for and is a major advance for composers working in this young medium.  The quality of the recordings, the expression in the samples and the very pleasing tuning of this library is without precedent.

 

 

January 4--The Variations on Two Twelve-Tone Rows is now composed and produced, to be release at an unspecified date.  In addition, Gerber Electronic Music Studios is happy to announce the acquisition of the Vienna Symphonic Library, Pro Edition.  This sample library consists of over 240GB of samples and is considered one of the finest orchestral sample libraries available.

2004

 

 

November 19--In Praise of Poets, Gerber's 8th CD, is now at CD Baby..  This new release features twelve new songs with text by poets throughout the ages, including Sophocles, Walt Whitman, Emily Dickinson, Wilfred Owen, Wendell Berry and more.

 

 

May 23--Singer Katy Stephan has recorded Unending Love for Gerber's new CD in production, joining soprano Janet Campbell and Tenor Dale Tracy.  This new CD has a release date of 1st quarter 2005.

 

 

February 6--The Unreal Orchestra is published in Keyboard Magazine. This new article by Jerry Gerber is designed to give helpful tips to aspiring digital orchestrators.

 

 

 


2003

September 25--Ryan Miglierini catches up with Jerry Gerber with some questions about music and MIDI at Sonic Control.

August 21-22--The Gerber Electronic Music Studio is proud to host composer interviews for Kalvos & Damian's New Music Bazaar.  The interviews feature San Francisco Bay Area composers working in a variety of mediums, styles and genres.   The interviews will be aired and posted on the Kalvos & Damian site in the coming months.

June 24--Gary Garritan in conversation with Jerry Gerber.

May 21--Read the new interview with Digital Pro Sound's Frank Moldstad.

May 15--The Art of MIDI Sequencing has been released and is available at CD Baby.

April 17--Gerber has begun composing and producing for a new Ottava Records compact disc featuring mezzo-soprano Janet Campbell and tenor Dale Tracy.  This CD will consist of 12 new songs, with text by a variety of gifted poets throughout the centuries including Sophocles, Emily Dickinson, Walt Whitman, Wilfred Owen, Wendell Berry and others.

March 12--The Gerber Electronic Music Studio has recently acquired the Yamaha DM2000 digital mixing console.  This board samples at 96khz and has the most advanced features currently available on a medium-format digital mixing console.

March 11--The Art of MIDI Sequencing (Ottava 03-007) is scheduled for release on April 24th 2003.  Additionally, the studio is being remodeled with new carpet, and new decor in a beautiful blue and gray color scheme.


2002

December 4--The 5th symphony is finished and this work completes Jerry Gerber's new CD release scheduled for 1st quarter 2003.  This disc will contain the 5th symphony (2002) in four movements, and Essay for Virtual Orchestra (2001), a one movement work also scored for the virtual orchestra.  MP3 samples will be posted on this site soon.

December 1--The December 2002 issue of Electronic Musician has an article about Gerber's music.

May 16--New review by Louisiana Music Critic Steve Schwartz of Moon Festival and Rebel Planet.

February 7--Moon Festival is now available at CD Baby and will soon be available at Tower Records stores throughout the U.S.

January 7--Gerber Electronic Music Studio is now using the Dan Dean Solo Brass, Dan Dean Solo Woodwinds, and the Gary Garritan Orchestral Strings libraries.  These new libraries are the next step in sample library evolution.  They include chromatic sampling with up to 8 dynamic levels, a large variety of articulations and are recorded digitally using fine players and exceptional instruments.


2001

December 4-- Moon Festival, is in the final stages of production, with a release date of January 2002.  This new recording contains new compositions including 12 piano pieces, 5 songs on poetry by Tu Fu, and Patterns, a one-movement virtual orchestra piece.

October 6--Interview with Hans Van Even.

March 12--A new composition, Patterns, is being written by composer Jerry Gerber.  This work will be a one movement composition for the virtual orchestra.

February 28--Electronic Music Foundation's review of Rebel Planet.

February 8--A set of new songs based on Chinese poetry is being composed for Mezzo Janet Campbell.

January 19--Rebel Planet released yesterday!  Check it out  here!


2000

December 1--Composing is continuing on the Piano Suite, a set of 12 short pieces for each month of the year.  

October 27--Ottava Records has purchased the Dan Dean Solo Strings library.  This library consists of very high quality samples of solo violins, solo violas and solo cellos.

September 26--Regeneration, is to be released on October 24th. This recording features Symphony #3 for the virtual orchestra and Vision & Prayer, a cycle of nine songs on poems by Dylan Thomas.

May 1-- Ottava Records has teamed up with Bayside Distribution for national distribution of  CDs.

April 1--Ottava Records now uses Gigastudio and the Miroslav Vitous Ensemble String Library.  These new additions to the studio adds a warmth of tone and beauty of expression that is equaled by no other string library currently in use.
